Bunchflower Daffodil (Narcissus tazetta ssp. tazetta)

Bunchflower Daffodil (Narcissus tazetta ssp. tazetta) on the Yarra flood bank in Abbotsford. The pure white-flowering tazetta subspecies of Jonquil is found across the Mediterranean and Central Asia, and thanks to garden escapes and dumping, has occasionally naturalised within Melbourne’s riverine fringes, as well as around Geelong and Mornington. This is a longstanding, low density population on an extremely degraded lower bend of the Yarra, so more symptomatic than anything else. Neighbouring development permits may produce the serious reveg works that finally dislodge the Jonquils from this bank.
