Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum), as a single spontaneous volunteer on railway embankment in Richmond. Naturalised in Australia around 1900, the first formal records of the plant’s ‘spasmodic’ appearances in Victoria date to 1960. Until recently, prohibitions meant that Opium Poppy could only be grown commercially in Tasmania; Victoria has licensed growers since 2014.
