Onion Weed (Asphodelus fistulosus)

Onion Weed (Asphodelus fistulosus), a noxious weed of Victoria’s northwest cereal growers and other similar areas of Australia, but a plant that is also present and successful throughout Melbourne’s west and southwest. This pattern of distribution in the metropolitan seems to be in contradiction to the plant’s reported preference for sandy soils, and deserves some further investigation. As with so much on this feed, Onion weed is a Mediterranean native, and recorded in Victoria from 1884.
